Meals from the Heart

After a long and emotional day at the hospital, parents and carers rarely have the time, funds, or energy to cook a fresh and healthy dinner.

We invite you to step into the kitchen for a night to prepare fresh, nutritious meals for seriously ill children and their families. Our program provides the 60 families staying at the Westmead House with a delicious hot meal, three nights each week. Families find comfort in hearing laughter in the kitchen and enjoy a dinner that's been served with a smile.

Rachel from Aryzta, a dedicated Meals from the Heart participant, says:

"Supporting RMHC Greater Western Sydney's Meal from the Heart corporate volunteering program gives our team a sense of community and an opportunity to give back in a small, practical way to families who are going through the toughest time of their lives. The Meals from the Heart program give families a time to come together in a warm, friendly enviroment and bond over a home-cooked meal... that they don't have to prepare! Most importantly, parents are able to spend time with their seriously ill or injured child and simply enjoy a family dinner together."

The impact you'll make

When a child is diagnosed with a serious illness, it impacts the whole family. Life is turned upside down. That’s why we provide a safe and supportive place that keeps families together.

It means that families can focus on comforting and protecting their seriously ill or injured child while receiving vital hospital treatment.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney, which runs the Westmead House, Nepean Family Room, Hospitality Carts at both Nepean Hospital and Campbelltown Hospital and a Learning Program, is an independently run charity that relies on the financial support of corporate and community partners to continue the work that we do.

In 2022, Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney supported nearly 1500 families. The house runs at full capacity most nights of the year, providing a home away from home for families from all over Australia.

None of this is possible without our corporate and community volunteers. Families find comfort and support through the programs we offer.

“It’s such a unique situation here, unless you’ve been here and done it, it’s hard to understand. You just bond.” - Sam, mum to Elsie, who stayed 154 nights.
