All in for Oakley

5 year old Oakley has refractory epilepsy, which means persistent and recurring seizures that cannot be controlled by standard anti-epileptic drugs.

Oakley and her family have been staying at Ronald McDonald House while receiving critical surgery and treatments at the Children's Hospital at Westmead.

As you can imagine, experiencing constant seizures can be very overwhelming for Oakley. In an instant, she gets confused, vulnerable, disoriented and convulsing. Her parents' hearts drop every time.

Living 2 hours away from hospital is too risky.

The family have had to put their lives on hold and leave their home for 30 nights and counting.

Without your support, RMHC GWS would not be able to provide a 'home away from home' just 3-minutes walk from the hospital.

MJH Multi is calling on our community to raise $30,000, which helps support a family here at Ronald McDonald House for 187 nights.

Oakley and her family are counting on our support

Oakley had her first seizure at just 12 weeks old.

After an initial hospital stay with no clear diagnosis, she was transferred to Westmead Children’s Hospital where she was diagnosed with Focal Cortical Dysplasia.

Despite medication, her seizures persisted for five years, leading to the difficult decision to proceed with brain surgery. The surgery successfully removed the seizure-causing tissue, but Oakley woke up with hemiparesis— unable to speak or move the right side of her body.

She spent four weeks in hospital undergoing intensive rehabilitation including daily speech, occupational, and physiotherapy. Her speech began returning a week after surgery, and she slowly started learning to walk again, with gradual improvements in her arm and hand.

MJH Multi has been a proud supporter of Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney (RMHC GWS) for many years. We have met many of the 3500+ families with sick kids they support every year and know how life-changing and essential their support is.

Matthew Mifsud, Senior Partnerships Manager talks about RMHC GWS's 60-room House in Westmead, which relies on community support to provide a home to over 1,600 children like Oakley every year.
